Do a search here. I have posted several times about D-Mannose. You can get it at any good health food store and it takes great. I have done several rounds with it when I still had Lyme.
Per my doctor, One of Lyme's favorite places is the urinary and reproductive area in both women and men. They go where their survival is assured. That's one way of passing it on to others
Take care.

Recurrent UTIs were one of my very first symptoms -- gosh, 17 years ago now! I had blood in my urine. (I was just diagnosed with Lyme last month, finally.) UTIs are horrible!! Mine finally cleared up after a big dose of doxy, and have never returned like that (knocking wood here...) I've also found that nonoxyl-9 (spermicide) tends to give me both yeast and urinary problems.

UTI's were one of my first symptoms as well-18 years ago. They went on for years and got so bad that one doc found 5 different bacteria in my urine once. I remember not even being able to sit down without a pillow under my butt on longer car rides it was so bad. Lots of trips to emergency for relief. I even had two cystoscopies (sp??) which did nothing. This symptom went away on it's own and has not re-occured. I don't have any advice but I just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this one!

Before I knew I had Lyme, I had chronic UTT's for three years. They kept me on low dose bactrim. Finally, they stretched my uvea that hurt like h**l, but it solved the problem. (Why they waited 3 years to do this still baffles me).
2 weeks ago I came down with bronchitis, sinus infection and a UTI. They cultured my urine and there was no bacteria. The only thing that was high was nitrate. Told me not to worry. But I still have some burning, and alot of sensitivity in that area.
Good Luck! Jill

Hey Jill,
what is up with high nitrates and no bacteria able to be grown? i had similar findings 3 times in a row.
Anyone know the answer to this?

All I know when I asked the infusion nurse (I have a picc, and they take blood every week, so I always ask for my results), he told me that the positive nitrate would be a factor only if another one was positive. It was either the leukocyte esterase or maybe the WBC? Hope you can figure it out??!!!! Too much for my brain right now:(

so many different opinions from the ducks.
I believe it is WBC.
The ER duck said i had high nitrates so it could be nothing else but UTI. this was back in January when the real bladder pain started. I asked what nitrates were.
And he fumbled thru the answer saying he had to go back 8 years to his book in med school. basically its what bacteria releases...thats the answer i got.

Just FYI, when i had a bladder infection I used 3 days of Cipro and concentrated cranberry juice w/o sugar and it cured me very fast.

These bugs are hard to culture and require sensitive testing...we have one lab in London that can do this using swabs from the urethra etc.
They can also test for the bugs antibiotic sensitivity...you need to use a good doc/lab...see all the IC websites.
