I think your David Cook should be fine in this competition. Too much talk, even by the judges saying that it will be a David/David competition. Which will mean that Syesha, Jason and Brooke will drop in the next three weeks, but just not sure of the order.
That is, unless they have another "shocking elimination" in which case, the finale will be weak since you know which ever David left standing will win.
Perhaps they feel they got all the shocking eliminations out of their system for the season.
Next up is Neil Diamond songs. I know that Carly was suppose to do "Sweet Caroline" but with her gone, that song won't be used unless one of the contestants decides to drop the song they were working on to pick up the new one. But probably not.
Ahhhhh and we have a "power voter" here with Tutu. I did actually vote in the second season but more to humor my two daughters. They were obviously younger then and LOVED Clay Aiken. So one night, we each got on a different phone in the house (we had three phone lines at the time...ours, the kids and business) and we voted for Clay for two hours solid.
He STILL lost to Rubin but we got many more busy's than we did getting through, so I think when you are down to just two, it's just luck of the draw since many "power vote" like that. But that was the only year I did that and my phone had "redial" on it, so I did much like what you are saying with the cell phone, Tutu.
My "baby" is away at college though, so I don't vote when I'm watching the show alone. Besides, when I heard there is a clause in the contract that the producers can change any of the votes basically that they want to, it didn't give me the incentive to do it anymore, since I'm sure they already know who they want to give the contract to anyway. Ho hum.

Ahhh Betty, I hope we can agree to disagree. I found last night kind of a train wreck. The songs all came off too much like Karaoke.
I do agree that Jason was probably the weakest link, but I think Brooke had the worst song of the night with that "I'm a Believer".
I think the best of the night was Archuleta's "America" although his first wasn't bad but the arrangement wasn't good. David Cook tried to make them his own which saved him. I liked Syesha's new hair do.
Not sure why Simon said she was in trouble unless it was really to stir up her fans and get them to vote harder since I don't know where that comment came from.
I didn't think last night was one of the better nights for the top five and at this point they should have some amazing performances and they weren't blowing anyone away. Perhaps Neil Diamond wasn't a good choice for them this late in the competition.

WAs not able to watch much of it last night. Sometimes I can sit and listen to the songs and other times I can not.
I did see the white female at the piano. I liked that.
And I did see the second song Cook sang. I liked that.
Both of those caught me long enough to listen to them.

Betty,
I agree about it being sad. I think when we get to this level every year, you start to like something about ALL of them and it is sad to see ANY of them go.
Next week they are doing more of a rock genre but say it will be in a BROAD sense so they each will be able to do something that might be on the radio NOW.
Probably a way to find out who is more mareketable.

Actually, I thought it was long past time for Brooke to go, though I liked her as a person.
I just didn't think she sang as well as some of the others.
Still rooting for David Cook to win the whole thing!

I think the remaining singers are all very talented but I have to admit my family is even more entertained by watching Paula.
We loved when she was commenting on "both" of Jason's songs, but he had only sung one at that time!!
Doesn't that little mistake make you think that the show's writers actually give her comments to say before the kids have even sung???

Hey there, Sherry!!! Yipppeeee!!!! Glad to have you back!!!
kam.. yeah, I think Jason's time is over. He's just not stepping up to the plate. I have a feeling his "work ethic" is not too strong!!
In order to be a star, you have to be willing to put out the effort.
Syesha was great... Glad I've been voting for her. I think Randy felt bad that she cried. I don't think what he said really did it......
It was the emotion of singing that powerful song that had such great meaning for her.
The only thing coming out of Randy's mouth these days is how wonderful David A is. It doesn't matter how he does, "he's wonderful."
My vote is still on David Cook. It will be a crime if he loses.
just my stupid ramblings!!

Yep, I can't see Jason being saved after last night.
As far as the "Tip Toe through the Tulips" comment....perhaps he should have tried that song. Doubt it could have been any worse than what he did.
I really wanted to pull for him...not for the win since it's clearly a David/David competition, but more because I felt he needed to be taken under a wing. He seems so very shy and insecure.
Probably not right for this type of business, but still brought out the mothering in me. But no, sadly, it's his time to go.

Couldn't help but feel so sorry for Jason, but, alas, it was his time.
Syesha becoming so overwhelmed with emotion was so touching. I think even Simon was moved!
I think David Cook should win. And David A. should have a fab career ahead of him. (I hope his dad lets him enjoy what's left of his childhood first.)

David Cook! David Cook! David Cook!
Too bad Jason had to go. His singing . . . well?? But I loved his "whatever happens, happens" attitude.
I think that a Syesha/David Cook finale would be more entertaining than a David/David finale.
This season is starting to d-r-a-g.

Yes, I think they have had a good season and many from the top ten will be picking up contracts this year.
I do feel that David Cook will win it, but that isn't always the best for each person since then you are bound by the contracts. Where as Daultry not winning was best for him since that way he could keep his band he had been with BEFORE Idol and be big.
If you win, you have to go by their rules....so it's a double edged sword, but hey...everyone likes to be a winner.
But I'm sticking with what I went with at the top ten point that a few friends and I had all done with predicting. I had said it would be a David/David finale, so sorry, I have my "prediction" riding on this one, so Syesha has to go next. Sorry, Syesha fans.

i thought they had a really nice show letting each go home as celebrities; stretch limos, concerts to full stadiums/HS gyms, etc. and endless fans wanting their autographs.
nice each broke down and showed their emotions of how special it is to have gotten this far!
like how cook was asked to bring his brother up there as well...
and the winner is DAVID ..... i'm happy for either of them!

Having watched this show since it started years ago, I can safely say that this was the weakest season by far for talent. In my opinion, the producers didnt do enough to force the contestants out of their comfort zone, and I think the idea of allowing guitar, piano, was a mistake. While its great that the people could play, the show is supposed to be a singing competition, and too many of them are hiding behind their props. I also thought that this was by far the weakest season for variety of different "super stars" and genres. Very, very boring and static. The fact that contestants forgot words and could still survive week after week was atrocious.
Heres to next season..I hope its better, because if not, AI is on the way out...!!

I doubt it'll ever be on its way out!! But I agree that this was a pretty weak season.
At first, it seemed there was so much talent...
But they didn't GROW!!! Syesha was one of the few who actually got better and better each week [bar a few weeks where she stayed the same].
David Cook got a little better but was already so good and David A got slightly better. He's still in his comfort zone. That is for sure.
One of the reasons I always liked watching the show is to see the performers grow and become stars!

simon, this is the last year and then went on PROMPTLY saying they renewed their contracts for either another 2-3 years.
if anyone wanted to go to LKLive and read transcript; they'd know for sure how long they commited to!

Yes, as Betty just said, Simon did say on Larry King Live that they have renewed their contracts for two more years, so I do think it will definitely be around for ATLEAST the two years no matter what kind of talent they find.
I also feel strongly that with the "small print" in the contracts that A.I. producers can basically toss out any votes they choose, in the end, they can really pick who they want the winner to be. Sorry to pop any bubbles.
And with all the controversy about David A's dad and knowing he's 17, so they would have to work through the dad, I think that basically has given David Cook the win no matter WHAT happens next week.
I still think both will continue with their careers no matter how it comes out, as will many others that have already started getting their contracts.
I've got 3 row seats for the tour group when it comes to NH, so hoping I will be having a "good day" with lyme so I can enjoy it. Too unpredicatable about our health but six of us will be going and should be a great time.

Ahhh, someone who believes in the conspiracy also! I agree on every count, David Cook should take it.
When there were 12 contestants an entertainment news type program announced that the two Davids already had contracts drawn up for them at that time.
I was shocked then.....but now it seems they have made it come true.

Out of all the years, I think this has been the only year that the ending has been pretty predictable. It's been said since the beginning that it would be a David/David competition.
But hey....I think we have to enjoy it as ENTERTAINMENT and if nothing else, it does give the top ten a chance to get their names out there, be known and travel the country.
I still am addicted to the show, even with contract fine print and easy predictions.

Probably still voting for David Cook though!! As Simon said last night on Leno, David Cook has "paid his dues" and deserves the win more. I think Simon likes both Davids.

Since Simon has been saying he thinks Cook will win this season on the talk show circut, I did find it pretty odd with all the pimping he was doing for Archuleta tonight.
With that said...MY OPINION ONLY....I still think Cook has a good chance of winning it since he will appeal to a larger age bracket.
BUT Archuleta was in his element tonight. I think both of them did an amazing job and you can't say someone really blew it with one of their songs.
It's going to boil down to either who the producers want or where the larger fan base lies.
I watched with my daughter so we had both generations predicting. She felt her favorite song of the night was Cooks "new song" and her least favorite was Archuleta's "new song".
But with that said, she agrees that Archuleta probably had the better night tonight, but most people won't be voting based on just tonight and I still think Cook has a good shot. Either way, they both will have contracts, so time will tell.

I think Simon tells it like it is. David A basically won the night... prior to that Simon felt David Cook was the best.
My take... David A didn't realize how much he was admired/adored until he went home. I think doing that and then making the finals [he seemed truly shocked]... made him realize he could actually win this thing.
So... He went for it! All out! I was impressed.
Still... I voted for David Cook. I think David Cook just wanted to enjoy the night. Felt he had done his best all season and wasn't going to worry about one night.
That may be his undoing... but he won't care. He's got a huge future ahead.
I called probably 90-100 times last night and only got through about 20 times!!! I got thru the most times from 11:30 to midnight last night!
I was up anyway, and decided all the teeny-boppers had gone to bed. [NOT!]
kam.. yes, it's tonight. Should be really fun!

It really could go either way. Some seasons I've really been favoring one over the other, but these two are like asking you if you like apples or oranges better.
They both are good with the type of music they are doing. So guess tonight will tell.
Yes, Kam, tonight is the finale. It is on for two hours. Here are some highlights scheduled for the show tonight, since they need to burn two hours before giving the results.
David Cook and Mariah Carey will duet on ``Always Be my Baby''
David Archuleta and Neil Diamond will duet on ``America'' (this is still a rumor)
While many of the ex-Idols have been invited back for the finale, many in the Top 24 have not...
Seal will perform, according to the FOX report.
Donna Summer and ZZ Top are performing according to this.
``Other rumors include a performance by the Jonas Brothers and perhaps a gift from his pop holiness, Kanye West.
Jason Castro has a clue for one of the guest stars, he says that one was known as ``codename Virgin Airlines''
Adam Cook will be in the audience tonight.
So You Think You Can Dance dancers will be performing on Wednesday's finale
Two Idols from each of the previous six seasons will come back to perform a group number.
Bo Bice has already confirmed.
Carrie Underwood will perform her new single ``Last Name'', according to her My Space.
There's going to be another ``Dead Elvis'' video (last year, Celine Dion sang a ``duet'' with Elvis Presley), this time including several people, per Nigel on KISS.
Paula Abdul will debut a song from her upcoming album, and the Top 12 will also be performing alongside Paula for a special group number.
The band One Republic (responsible for the mega-hit ``Apologize''. Ryan Tedder from the band recently wrote for Clay Aiken and Blake Lewis) canceled a gig in order to be available for the finale. Daily Press
Nigel Lythgoe says the kids will be singing 8 new songs tonight. The Top 5 have duets, except for Jason Castro who will be singing ``Hallelujah'' by himself.
David Archuleta and David Cook will sing a duet-at first it was going to be ``Homeward Bound'' but they decided on ``Hero'' from Spiderman (Cookie suggested it).
Nigel says ``the most famous star in the world'' may not be a musician. From an interview with Nigel and the Davids this morning on KISS.

They were SOOO funny . . . and GOOD.
I just got that it was a hologram of Gladys Knight. I kept thinking she looked like she had not aged a single day. Wow ! and what a voice for that lady!
I have to say that I forced myself to watch AI since the final dozen. I so wish the audience did not scream so much. My hands are sore from the constant adjusting of the volume.
Did the amount of screaming bother anyone else ? Or the swirling, flashing lights - but those were only on some songs. The screaching was all over the place.
Both David's seem like very nice people. Great to see them thrive.

Archuletta's very good, but seems only able to sing ballads, plus the baggage of being young and burdened by his fathers influence.
I laughed so hard at Jack Black. The others were taking their cues from him.....funny stuff. All in all, a very entertaining show, even though it dragged a bit in the middle.
